Eatonton hosts BBQ and Blues Festival

‘Peg Leg’ provides good eats, good music, and good times

The 3rd annual “Peg Leg” Howell BBQ & Blues Festival took place Saturday at downtown Eatonton’s City Center Stage, where hundreds of barbeque and music lovers shared their collective passions.

With DJ Magic Mike filling the gaps, five bands took to the stage throughout a nearly seven-hour schedule, beginning at 2 p.m. with Roofdog, followed by Atlanta Blues Grinders, the Ray Howard Band, Blak Pearl, and the headlining Jay Morris Group.

Despite looming clouds and dire predictions of heavy rain (that finally arrived late that night), a brief, light shower during Roofdog’s festival-opening performance was the only appearance of the wet stuff all day.

Instead, the Peg Leg faithful enjoyed great conditions while each of the bands on stage delivered tight sets of danceable tunes that had the crowd up, moving and grooving to the beat.

Meanwhile, the scent of well-baked barbecue filled the air as a half-dozen BBQ food trucks kept Eatonton’s music fans fed and fueled for a full day of dancing and listening.
