Putnam County Middle School presented its annual showcase to the Putnam County Board of Education on Oct. 6.
The meeting began with the recognition of this month’s HEART recipients, Putnam County Charter School System bookkeeper Stephanie DeLoach and bus driver Florrie Williams.
Then, Putnam County Middle School’s instructional coach, Teresa Rhodes, and Read 180 teacher, Elizabeth Harkins, were recognized during the school’s showcase for their work ethic and support throughout the school.
Student Kimberly Soto Godinez was also recognized as a “success story” of the Read 180 program, which is an English and Language Arts remediation program for students. Godinez graduated from the program, making the most improvement in her class. She offered autographs at a booth welcoming attendees into the showcase.
The PCMS Chorus class performed, followed by four monologues by students in Theatre Arts, preparing for high school theatre auditions.

Broadcasting and Computer Science each showcased videos of their programs' activities and their impact on students.
Students from Future Farmers of America spoke about what they will be competing in. This is the first year FFA is at the middle school level, and there are currently 30 members.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes students played the “cup game” with board members and attendees to demonstrate how they use games to bring people together, then led two prayers.
Board Member Doris Clemons was recognized as a special guest and spoke on her experience traveling with Putnam County High School to Tuscaloosa, Okla., for their Lived Experience Program. The goal is to allow seventh and eighth-grade students to participate in the future.
The showcase closed with a short presentation on the new Gifted Individualized Educational Plan, the Essential 10 to improve students' character development, and the incentives to promote academic and attendance focus.
