The Putnam County Charter School System (PCCSS) Board of Education approved several action items at its April meeting, including a technology purchase, a spending resolution, and an employee bonus.
Following Board Chair Dr. Steve Weiner’s call to order, the invocation included a moment of silence, and the agenda was approved as submitted before recognitions began.
PCCSS Nutrition Director Teena Carr was recognized for being named the 2026 State of Georgia Director of the Year. Carr highlighted the progress on the district’s farm-to-table program.
“We have four more cows coming, the garden is started in the back, we have our hydros running, and I’m excited,” she said.
The Superintendent’s Students of the Month were also recognized, including Lillian Chadwick of Putnam County Elementary School, Shamiya Ellison of Putnam County Middle School, and Coreyona Farley of Putnam County High School.
The board next approved the consent agenda, followed by Tom Owens of Raymond James and Associates Inc., who presented information on pricing for the series’ 2026 bond.
A presentation on “Summer Inspiration 2026” outlined summer camp programs focused on reading, writing, and mathematics through hands-on activities such as cooking, building, and trips. Camps require at least 10 students; enrollment is ongoing. More information is available at putnam.k12.ga.us/page/summer-inspiration.
An update on student support services reported no disproportionate determinations over the past four years. Pam Reese, an educational mental health specialist, said she worked with more than 60 students last year to improve student mental health ratings across the district.
The board also reviewed events held throughout the year, including Friendly Fright Fest, Mistletoe Ball, Luau and Learn, and the Putnam County War Eagle Games.
PCCSS Superintendent Derick Austin recommended several action items, all of which the board approved. These included an internet use policy, a technology purchase, the FY27 spending resolution, a State of Georgia supplemental bonus, and a FY26 budget amendment.
The board also selected version three of the proposed meeting calendars. Future meeting dates are available at putnam.k12.ga.us.
The meeting concluded with the approval of personnel recommendations, discussion of board matters, including the event schedule, and adjournment.
