I’m not a movie critic. And since my column appears on the front page of the sports section, I try to stay in my lane and confine my remarks to sports with occasional snide remarks about politicians – one bonehead in particular. But this week, I’m in quite the quandary.

Beamer Bound: Kilgore to South Carolina

Putnam County’s Jalon Kilgore has made his college decision. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety committed to the University of South Carolina on Wednesday. According to the 247Sports Composite, Kilgore is ranked the No. 442 overall player and the No. 43 safety.

War Eagles dive head first into summer workouts

Eatonton, Ga. – The Putnam County High School football team started summer workouts earlier this month following the GHSA-mandated dead week. The War Eagles have been holding early morning practices in helmets and shorts from Tuesday through Thursday for the past several weeks.

Gator baseball claims state runner up second year running

The Gatewood Baseball Team (19-10, 12-2 AA) took a tough 10-8 loss to Terrell in the GISA AA state championship game. There was plenty of offense from both squads as 18 total runs were scored on 16 total hits. Gatewood plated 8 runs on 8 hits and 3 errors by Terrell.

PCHS boys basketball team has successful week

The Putnam County High School Boys JV and Varsity Basketball Teams traveled to Westside Macon and Eagles Landing. Varsity went undefeated picking up three wins. JV picked up a win but dropped two games later in the week.

Wrestlers hit the mats with informal summer matches

Putnam County wrestlers kicked off their summer with informal practice June 6 with five other schools. These informal practices are important for new wrestlers because there is a less competitive atmosphere when wrestling against new opponents to learn new techniques and styles in the sport.

PCHS summer basketball schedule in full swing

Putnam county high school boys gear up with 32 summer games between the varsity and junior varsity teams during the month of June. The varsity boys play 20 contests with the junior varsity playing 12. PCHS kicked off practice Monday, June 6, to kick off the month of play.
