Classic Center presents Swan Lake in March

Swan Lake, among the most beloved ballets of all time, comes to The Classic Center on March 3, in an original new production. The one-night-only performance is part of an ongoing 2023-2024 U.S. tour for the World Ballet Series.

GWM Crime & Wine event features serial killer survivor

Nearly a quarter-century later to the day, Georgia Writers Museum presented back-to-back nights of the first-hand account of serial killer survivor Kathy Kleiner- Rubin Jan. 12-13 at The Plaza in Eatonton.

Elks Hoop Shoot winners advance to district meet

The Lake Oconee Elks Lodge hosted its annual Hoop Shoot on Jan. 14 at Lake Oconee Academy in Greensboro. The Hoop Shoot was open to kids aged 8-13 in Greene, Putnam, Morgan, and Hancock counties. All first-place winners will next compete on Feb.

Artisans Village turns to nostalgia for new year

The Artisans Village in downtown Eatonton held its first reception of the year on Jan. 11, for “The Way We Were… Art Inspired by Nostalgia.” Displayed pieces reflected simpler times, with art showing laundry drying on clotheslines and farmhouse buildings in sunny fields.

PAPA plans ‘Steel Magnolias’ auditions

The Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA) will hold auditions on Feb. 4 and Feb. 6 for the play, Steel Magnolias at The Plaza Arts Center theater in Eatonton. Sunday’s auditions will be 3-4:30 p.m., with Tuesday’s scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m.

This past weekend I went with my mother to see the modern take on the classic Mean Girls from 2004. Mean Girls (2024) follows the story of 16-year-old homeschooled Cady Heron after she moves back to the United States from Kenya with her mother and attends North Shore High School.
