Three big wins prep Lady Gators for region ‘dogfight’

The Gatewood girls’ basketball team (14-4) kept rolling last week with three quality road wins. The Lady Gators dominated both Peachtree Academy (52-12) and Young Americans Christian (93-11), completing season sweeps of both the Lady Panthers and Lady Eagles.

Gators cruise into region play

Don Keiser has the Gatewood boys’ basketball team (16-3) cruising into region play. The Gators went 3-0 last week and won all three contests by at least 34 points. Gatewood started last Tuesday by traveling to Covington to take on Peachtree Academy.

War Eagles enter crucial stretch of region play

Putnam County boys’ basketball is having one of its best seasons in program history. The War Eagles are 16-3 overall and 7-1 in Region 4-AA play heading into the week, one of the most important of the season as they are riding a seven-game winning streak.

Gatewood’s Bennett makes college decision

Gatewood football player Evan Bennett has made his college decision. The rising senior announced via his personal Twitter Monday that he committed to North Carolina. Bennett, who plays linebacker and running back for the Gators, said he’s excited to be a Tarheel.

BASKETBALL: PCHS sweeps competition with three straight wins

The Putnam County boy’s basketball team is one of the premiere Class 2A programs in the state of Georgia, and they have been proving that point with recent performances. The War Eagles played three games last week and came out on top in each of them.

WRESTLING: Tie breaker decides Mat Eagles' result

It all came down to a tie-breaking technicality on Jan. 14, for the Putnam County High School (PCHS) boys’ wrestling team. Over the past two weeks, the GHSA held several dual-meet wrestling state championships to find Georgia’s top high-school wrestling teams.
